Dara's Biography
Dara:Singer Songwriter Dara
"Give me the freedom and
strength to ask 'why'."
In
the summer of 2004 Dara made her professional debut, appearing before a packed
house in an L.A. cabaret to sing a hallmark collection of her original songs
with a compelling assurance that belied her young age.
Such
an adept musical launch signals a welcome interlude in contemporary popular
music. Here is something refreshingly new, a winning songwriting talent
showcased through an enticing, velvet-smooth vocal instrument.
Soaring
melodies, derived from Dara's extraordinary range, are paired with incisive
lyrics to lead listeners on an intense and intimate journey. Onstage, Dara's
energy is palpable. Through poignant, emotional passages and cathartic
resolution, she ultimately delivers an unusual clarity of vision with a
whimsical flair.
At
guitar or keyboard, Dara's songs emerge as evocative musical statements,
reflecting both existential angst and rarified optimism as she merges into
adulthood in an uncertain world. From the wistful "This Old House"
to the
plaintive "Lie to Me," Dara serves notice that hers is talent to be
reckoned with, and a voice to be heard.
Dara has been studying
voice, piano, and guitar formally for five years. Currently, she is enrolled
in the Commercial Composition program in the Music Department of California
State University, Northridge. She continues to compose and she performs
regularly in the Los Angeles area.
